You just don't like people

A wee while ago, after I had offered up a harsh but (in my view) justified opinion of someone, Mrs Amusements, perhaps feeling that I had been unkind, frustratedly declared, "Well, you just don't like people."

This stung a bit, at the time, but on reflection I think she may be right. I have always been colossally intolerant; indeed, The Man Of Cheese and I used to light-heartedly call ourselves The Intolerance Twins. But I think it goes beyond that; maybe I am just not very nice.

Yesterday I was not very nice, and to someone who deserves all the niceness in the world. To compound it all, I'm now going to upset the blogosphere by embedding a track by SPM. I would say sorry but, as I think we have already established, I'm not very nice.

  1. Ah, The Intolerance Twins, didn't they play at Latitude last year...?
Martin, you're NOT not very nice, you're lovely. But I totally get the not liking people thing. I'm really quite anti humans in general - although there are a good few notable exceptions, of course (and they're nearly all in this blog corner). The thing I keep hearing myself saying, either in my head or occasionally out loud, is that I don't *get* people. Birds, worms, snails, spiders... that's more my bag, any day. But people can be very hard to be nice to, in all honesty.

    1. Ah C, you say the right things. But "people"... I don't mind being intolerant of them (I sometimes enjoy quite like it). It's when I'm not nice to proper people that I have an issue. But thank you.

  2. I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you here Martin. I've been fortunate enough to meet you and, as C so rightly says, you're definitely NOT not very nice.

    1. Ah, cheers. But I certainly have moments that I can beat myself up about afterwards.

    2. I think we all do... because we're people! But I hope you can make amends in whatever way you feel you need to for both of you.

Given what we face every day in this mad world I think we can all be forgiven for an occasional blip. My own intolerance grows by the second to the point I'd like to move to a deserted island. Mind you some fool in a jetski would arrive and ruin it....oops I'm off again!

    1. A deserted island certainly sounds nice sometimes.

  4. Ditto what the others have said, especially having now met you, Martin. And, as C pointed out, we are very lucky to have all the lovely humans in this 'blog corner'.
