Sometimes, not often but sometimes, mood, circumstance and music align perfectly. So it was last night, on the long, dark, lone drive away from everything and nothing.
Pan American are an experimental electronic music ensemble, according to Wikipedia, and have been quietly beavering away at this kind of thing for nearly 30 years.
That is gorgeous - and I can absolutely imagine how it would feel hearing it on a long, dark, lone drive (and "away from everything and nothing" - such poetic words). Very atmospheric indeed. 30 years and I had no idea.
ReplyDeleteAnother discovery courtesy of 6 Music.
DeleteThat's lovely, really good. I have an EP by Pan American with a track called Both Ends Fixed that I really like.
ReplyDeleteWill start my back-catalogue investigation there, cheers.
DeleteYes, Pan American’s catalogue is deep and always beautiful. I’d also recommend Mark’s (and bandmates then) other, mostly earlier project: Labradford. As I said, just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt’s all just really is beautiful music.
Ah, I read about Labradford on PA's Wikipedia page. Something else to investigate!
DeleteApologies, tried to edit the redundancy. But like I said three times…
DeleteI have one Pan American album in this house, that I played for the first time in years around 18 months ago, after which I made a mental note that I really do need to check out more of Mark Nelson's music asap. Needless to say, the mental note got lost in the cluttered filing cabinet between my ears, so thanks for reminding me with this beauty of a tune. Just making another mental note....
ReplyDeleteI have one of those cluttered between-the-ears cabinets too...
