Amusements Minor is growing up fast. As I type this, he's about to sit down for his final GCSE, after which he will leave his current high school. He is celebrating this evening, not with his parents, but by going for a walk with another new development, his girlfriend. Sixth form and a new school awaits. Life awaits. It's all good but, you know...
Now I know that ought to make me think of this...
...but because of my exact age, it makes me think of this. If nothing else, it proves that even soft rock MOR ballsackery can sometimes be okay. Sorry (not sorry) but, as Rol says, sometimes you just have to irk the musos.
Ooh a whole new stage in life about to begin. Hope the GCSEs (and the walk) went well.
ReplyDeleteAs for DD, she used to get annoyed that we were always around when she was growing up, as her dad was self-employed working from home and I worked part-time mornings. The Cat's In The Cradle lyrics must be so relevant to parents in todays world though, what with crazy house prices and all the other pressures. Written decades ago though.
Thanks, Alyson, everything seems to be going well for the boy right now. Long may that continue!
DeleteAnd yes, originally released in 1975, but still relevant.
Oh wow, it doesn't seem five minutes since I'm sure mentioned him starting at Big School. I hope he gets excellent exam results (he surely will judging by his dad!) and, good for him, having his first girlfriend too. Cats In The Cradle is one of those songs where I find it hard to imagine a bad version, never mind whether a muso's irk or not!
ReplyDeleteThanks, C. Yes, the tempus of boyhood and parenthood is certainly fugit-ing. He'll do well, I think, and deservedly so.
DeleteAs for the song, I thought about Cat Stevens' interpretation too, but too many versions of the same song in the same post might irk readers!
Something in my eye, sorry.
ReplyDeleteDusty round here, isn't it? Gets to me too.
DeleteThe best of times for the young fellow, making memories to enjoy for a lifetime. That age seems like yesterday in some ways but a lifetime away in others.
ReplyDeleteThe best of times indeed, and half his luck! To be that age again. And completely agree, seems like yesterday at times, impossibly long ago at others.
