It's an auspicious date in the calendar - my best mate's fiftieth birthday and my parents' sixtieth wedding anniversary. Three amazing people with cause to celebrate, I just wish I could celebrate with them, rather than virtually. Anyway, here's a song for each occasion - can you guess which is for The Man of Cheese and which is for the parentals?
"Life is a drink and you get drunk when you're young..."
If not for Alma, I wouldn't exist
Cannot believe the big 50 has arrived-this alway seemed a lifetime away. We will most certainly celebrate in person as soon as legally and sensibly possible. In the meantime your most excellent gift of every Gene album box set will be reloaded onto iTunes tomorrow to replace what disappeared following a computer death. This time I wont keep the CDs in the car and risk them going doolally like my original purchases. Cheers Mr P!
ReplyDeleteI know, mate, where has the time gone? Still struggle to get my head around the fact that we are not just middle-aged but moving through that bracket at a rate of knots.
DeleteFor other readers, this is the essential Gene boxset of which TMOC speaks.
Very rudely forgot to offer my congratulations and very best wishes to the parentals,a quality (and indeed rare nowadays) milestone. Please pass on my regards when you next speak.
ReplyDeleteNo worries, will do. They had a quality day, all things considered, especially chuffed with the telegram (well, it was a card) from the Queen that I was able to sort out for them.
DeleteCongratulations to both parties - Fairly obvious which musical offering goes with which recipient (unless your parents are big Jam fans!) but just wanted to say I watched an old black and white movie this week with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers (The Gay Divorcee) and Fred sang Night and Day in it. Alma's version a very different animal. Also we used to have a karaoke cd (don't judge) of big band hits and Night and Day was my song - although very difficult to sing those first few lines as it turns out. My daughter's song, at age 7, was Mack the Knife!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alyson. And Mack the Knife at 7 - nice work!
DeleteSorry I'm so late. Happy celebrations to all, just such a shame about the shit circumstances! To be made up for when times permit, with added fervour I hope.
ReplyDeleteThanks, C. And let's hope so, though God knows when the way things are going at the moment.
