About Sidney Poitier

"Acting isn't a game of 'pretend'," he once said. "It's an exercise in being real."

Sidney Poitier as Virgil Tibbs, In The Heat Of The Night

RIP Sidney.

In the Heat of the Night is one of my favourite films

  2. An incredible presence, who could lift any film that he was in. I remember watching Little Nikita in the late 80s, with River Phoenix. Not the greatest movie ever made, but it would have been a considerably lesser film without Poitier involved. Great quote.

  3. Sad news, a stunning actor and man. Definitely time for another viewing of 'To Sir With Love', my first memory of seeing him.

    1. "Introducing 'Lulu'!" as the poster for that proclaimed.

  5. The word dignified keeps coming up in relation to Sidney. Very apt. After writing about the song To Sir With Love a few years ago I bought the DVD of the film. You get so much more out of films like these when you revisit them in later life. Will have to pay it another visit.
