Super-short gig reviews

Went to see this old man live at the weekend, for what I think was the seventh or possibly eighth time. It was very good. He played quite a few songs from one of his old bands, and a couple by the other. The place was absolutely rammed, as full as I can remember. Oh, and there ought to be a collective noun for a gathering of middle-aged mods. Anyway, he's brilliant, see him live anywhere you can. Here endeth the review.

Paul Weller Setlist Nick Rayns LCR, UEA, Norwich, England 2022

  1. Glad you enjoyed him. Just an observation but it proves my theory that over a certain age you should never have your picture taken, just stick to moving images (as a lady of a certain age I'm sensitive about this!). He's looking a bit old and craggy in the Instagram post at the top but watching the footage, the whole essence of Paul Weller comes through and you don't think age at all.

Great thing about having been around for a long time though is the sheer number of song choices you have for your set list.

    1. He also proves that looks may age but cool doesn't!

I thought that about the setlist too, he's got so much killer material to choose from, no two gigs are the same.

    3. Yes, cooler in his sixties than I have ever been. Damn him!

  2. Looks like a superb setlist and great performance of '..Floorboards..' too. Agree with Alyson - certainly not a flattering still but to see him moving on stage a youthfulness shines through. Plus he's got good hair!

    1. In a way, I'd take the still - he looks his age, and like he's lived. But still looks cool. That would do for me.

    2. I can see where Martin is coming from but sadly there would be no craggy still of a female of the same age, as she would no longer be in the business. (But not bitter honest, grrr...)

    3. Sadly, I think you're right :(

    4. Sadly yes, all too often: Craggy man "distinguished". Craggy woman "oh dear, she's let herself go".
      Grrrrrr too!
