As of today, this blog is legally old enough to drive. So here's a car song from before it was born. Video's worth watching for the last forty seconds alone.
No longer thinking of her back on the bonnet, Justine Frischmann lives in the US now, where she earns a crust as an award-winning artist of a different sort.
Happy blog birthday Martin!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
DeleteBig congratulations on 17 years of NA, so admirable! It is now old enough to be interviewed by the police without needing an adult present too; hopefully there'll be no need for that...
ReplyDeleteLove the ending of that video especially, as you say (and Donna looks great in it).
Not really admirable, I've hardly been prolific all that time - took me three and a half years to get to 100 posts!
DeleteAs for Donna, she had tough times ahead of her, but came out the other side. Apparently is still making music, but also now works as a Christian missionary with the homeless.
Happy blog birthday, 17 years is some achievement. Don't think I've seen the video before. Always had a soft spot for sulky Donna
ReplyDeleteCheers. Yes, Justine got all the attention but Donna was cool as.
DeleteHappy birthday to NA - 17 years though, one of the originals. Don't think I'd even heard of blogs or blogging back then. Quite a journey and a lot's changed in the world. Will have to have a look at your archives.
ReplyDeleteA lot has changed on the blog too: I used to host it myself, and hand-code every page, the RSS feed... I even coded my own rudimentary commenting system! At first it was on Geocities, which Yahoo bought and later closed. Then I moved it to a free host, but when they eventually went bust I gave up being an indie and signed to a major here on Blogger.
DeleteJust looked back and yes, it has certainly evolved since the early days. You were keen back then, hand-coding every page (to be honest I don't even know what that means). I've had it easy, only joining in once it was all made easy for us. Then again I seem to have discovered blogging just as it went out of fashion. That said, a great little community.
DeleteI hope it's improved. I've certainly made a bit more effort with it in recent years, partly because once people started commenting I felt that I got more out of it - I enjoy the blog "conversation".
DeleteHappy blog birthday, Martin, that's some achievement! Relatively speaking, I was very late to discovering New Amusements, and whilst my rate of commenting still leaves something to be desired, I regularly drop by. First time I've seen this video and a long time since I've listened to Elastica, so thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCheers. To be fair, lots of current readers were late to discovering NA, only finding it after I'd moved to Blogger.
DeleteCongratulations! Looking forward to your 21st!!
ReplyDeleteCheers ears. That'll be good cause for a celebratory ale!
