Every home should have one

I've ummed and aahed for some time over the idea of a blog theme along the lines of "albums every home should own". But it's such a difficult concept to attempt, being so subjective and so hard to be exhaustive. Let's face it, I'm exhausted.

So I'm going to cheat, with an in-no-particular order collage of albums that I think every home should own. It's not exhaustive, of course - I'll think of others later that I should have included. Of course "best of" compilations are allowed (my gaff, my rules). I have limited myself to only one album per artist though...

... but what have I missed? What would you nominate for inclusion here? And have I got the right album for the artist?

  1. Great idea!
Interesting too - mine would differ from yours quite a bit but there'd certainly be a few artists in common. Do you think every home should have this set for a broader reason, or is that they're the ones you couldn't be without? If the latter, like the way a selection like this says so much about the person is too. (They should use this device on dating apps!) Also, there are some albums on my shelves which fit the bill and yet rarely get played these days, but they are just so much a part of who I am that I just couldn't NOT have them, it would seem wrong, like a betrayal almost. Do you find the same?

    1. Sorry, appalling English in that comment, my brain working faster than my fingers - you know what I mean though, hopefully!

    2. I like to think broader reasons but of course the reality is that these albums are indispensable to me. That said, I genuinely believe any home is improved by the addition of Snap! Another way I thought of this was, if some disaster befell my collection and I lost it all, what would I have to replace first to get to a point where I felt I was back up and running, so to speak? This lot would be a good start - an instant record collection.

  2. Eight of these titles could potentially make my list - I say potentially because I'm pretty darned sure that I wouldn't actually be able to narrow it down to 30 selections! I was just about to start jotting down a possible 30, but stopped myself, as I'd really like to get some sleep tonight. This is the exact kind of conundrum that would in all likelihood keep me awake until the wee small hours! This is an ideal topic to be thrashed out over a couple of shandies at a future bloggers convention.

    1. Yes! Just 30 is near impossible, 50 would be hard enough, probably near an essential 100. But yes to debating over shanties at a bloggers convention!

    2. A bloggers' convention topic for sure.
Can't stop thinking about this theme now. Would have to include the Clash first album and for me the Bowie choice would be Aladdin Sane.

    3. Over shanties? Even better! :-)

    4. Clearly had one too many shandies when typing that. Either that or predictive text fail...

  3. For your consideration...

    Best of Blondie

Unsurprisingly I own and agree with 90 percent of your choices. I think I'd have to add Mr Rossiter's Defenestration....
